800 years of the Beguinage: Queen Mathilde visits the beguinage

On Friday morning, 6 June, Queen Mathilde visited Bruges' beguinage as part of the opening of the 800-year beguinage celebrations.

She visits the exhibition in Beguinage 1 and the info garden on the Beguinage by Bruges Foundation set up in the garden.
Her Majesty also shows and special attention to the just restored statue of St Elisabeth of Thuringia, patron saint of the beguinage.

However, her great interest was in personal contact with the sisters and residents of the beguinage and their unique form of society within the walls and the spirit "Sauvegarde" of this beguinage.
